BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE

name pronunciation: MAH-lee BAS-DAY-oh MOWNT-JOY
pronouns: she/her/hers

Molly is a Lexington, North Carolina-born writer, educator, student, and researcher. Her family immigrated to the United States from Guyana in the 1980s. Molly’s Indo-Caribbean background and experiences as a first-generation college student from a lower-income, single-parent household contribute to her social-justice-focused research interests.

From a young age, Molly had an interest in a profession in education. Many teachers at her local public school took the time to invest in her personally and academically, leading her to pursue a bachelor’s and master’s degree in education. In deciding to pursue a Ph.D. in Planning and Public Policy, Molly aims to use her experiences as a practitioner in education and research skills to advocate for equitable public education in the United States. Her dissertation research focuses on issues of school segregation and school integration policies.

Molly has lived and worked professionally in Philadelphia, PA, New Brunswick, NJ, Rochester, NY, Raleigh, NC, Chicago, IL, Columbia, SC, and Fort Worth, TX. She currently resides in Collingswood, NJ, with her husband, daughter, and pup. She enjoys spending time with her family, baking, cooking (and eating) Guyanese food, reading, photography, cycling, and practicing yoga. Molly is a 200-hour Registered Yoga Teacher.
